Welcome folks! To get back into the swing of things we want to invite everyone out to the shop for some one-of-a-kind events.

This Saturday, September 18: Beers for Boobs! In support of Marsha’s 2-day walk Sweetwater Brewery is sponsoring beer, music, and lots of pink ribbons. It’s all for a good cause so come visit, bring friends, relax and enjoy the afternoon.

Also going on this Saturday Georgia Shakespeare will be at the shop. They are on the hunt for a most important cast member: Ralphie Parker in A Christmas Story. This will be an open casting call so come on out. The audition will be from 11-1pm. So if you’ve a son between 10-13 feel free to bring him down and take a chance. All you’ll need to bring is a good story and a sense of humor.

The music this Saturday will be a live performance by local group Barney’s Goat. They have performed with us before and are always a great show. You can find their website here

Sorry about the long delay between posts. With Marsha’s crazy schedule the blog fell by the way side temporarily, but we are back now! So check back often as we will begin updating the blog again shortly.

Sunday is Father’s Day - Chocolate Perks wants to honor all the Dads in the community… so bring the Dads and GrandDads in for a treat. With the purchase of any food or beverage item, Dad/GrandDad will get a scoop of amazing ice cream with the topping of his choice for FREE!

First Friday (June 5th) Art Exhibit Grand Opening Event. Wait until you see the amazing new exhibit we have for you. Marguerite Tarica has a colorful, inviting, fun and powerful array of paintings and pictures for you to enjoy. Come celebrate with us on Friday starting at 7 p.m. We will have live piano music brought to you by Renee Machen. Other art exhibits will be available in the rest of the downtown, too.

Special Phretnoise Performance on Saturday, June 6th. They are going to rock the house starting at 7 p.m.

Saturday, June 13th – Flicks on the Bricks movie in the Town Green —look for the ice cream cart.

Thursday, June 18th – This will be Rainbow Village Day at Chocolate Perks. We will be sending out a coupon – you pay the regular price for your purchases and Chocolate Perks will donate a portion of our proceeds to Rainbow Village to help pay for their move to downtown Duluth. We will also have the Expressions Dance group holding an informational meeting about their program (held at Bunten Road Park) starting at 6 p.m. We will put a bow on the evening as we celebrate Mayor Nancy Harris’ birthday – and invite everyone to come and sing with us at 8 p.m. (More details soon.)

Sunday, June 21st - Honor the Dads in our Community - With the purchase of any food or beverage item, Dad gets a scoop of yummy ice cream with the topping of his choice.

Tuesday, June 23rd we will be hosting a great program - A Tasting - Wine and Chocolate. Reservations suggested - 3 pairings…$15 per person - Limited to 35 attendees.

Friday, June 26th – Chocolate Perks is one of the sponsors for the Georgia Transplant Foundation Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band concert in the Town Green. Come join the fun – dance a little – enjoy some special delight.

Saturday, June 27th – Great American Rock and Roll concert in the Town Green will find us and our ice cream cart out in the Park again!

Beginning Friday, May 1st, we will be hosting an exhibit by world reknowned artist Kathy Fincher. We hope you will join us for a wonderful opening night celebration with music and eats, sweets and drinks!

The art will be displayed for the full month of May so you have lots of time to come back and enjoy it some more. During Barefoot in the Park (May 9th and 10th), Kathy will be in the shop to do some storytelling. Check back for exact times. You won’t want to miss this heart-warming opportunity.

DULUTH, GA – Local photographer Mary Buck of Lightscapes Photographic Artwork will be featured at the Downtown Duluth restaurant, Chocolate Perks, on beginning March 27, 2009 until the end of April. A grand opening soiree will be held from 8PM to 10PM on the 27th. Ms. Buck will exhibit some of her new work as well as some of the new products she plans to offer clients, including contemporary presentation “gallery wraps”, metallic prints and images imprinted on metal. Refreshments, including wine and cheese, will be served.
Ms. Buck is known for her artful and highly personalized professional portraiture that captures the true spirit of the individual or individuals being photographed. She strives for natural looks, whether out of doors or in-studio. Additionally, she specializes in newborn and infant portraits and offers a “Nuova Amore” session for mothers and their new love. Mrs. Buck was awarded “Best of Gwinnett” Photographer in 2003, 2004, and again in 2007.

Ms. Buck explains, “My goal is to create portraits that provide memories and enjoyment for a lifetime. I believe that one should be surrounded within their home by portraits of their loved ones and I strive to make every portrait truly a work of art.”

About Mary Buck and Lightscapes Photographic Artwork: Ms. Buck is the owner and photographer of Lightscapes Photographic Artwork, founded in 1995. Her desire to satisfy her creativity led her to study all realms of photography from black and white to landscapes, and finally, portraiture. She holds the coveted Professional Photographer’s of America certification and has written for and been featured in national photography magazines. Ms. Buck is active with City of Duluth Arts Council, the Duluth High School theatre, cheerleading, and PTSA. She resides in Duluth with her husband Paul and her two children, Jonathan and Brittany.
